The production of wires and cables follows a core process that includes conductor processing, insulation coating, cable stranding, sheath extrusion, and finished-product testing. Each step in this process is closely interconnected and demands strict precision.
The first step is conductor preparation: using copper and aluminum rods as raw materials, the rods are drawn into fine single wires of the required specifications via a wire-drawing machine. Next, an annealing process is applied to enhance the conductor’s flexibility and electrical conductivity. Finally, multiple single wires are twisted together into strands according to demand, thereby increasing the conductor’s mechanical strength.
The second step is insulation extrusion, which is crucial for ensuring the cable’s insulation performance. Using an extruder, insulating materials such as polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride are heated until molten and then uniformly coated onto the conductor surface. A temperature-control system precisely regulates the coating thickness, thereby preventing defects such as eccentricity and air bubbles.
The third step is the cabling process. For multi-core cables, the insulated cores must be twisted together into a cable according to the specified twisting direction and pitch. At the same time, materials such as polypropylene ropes are used to fill the gaps, ensuring the stability of the cable core structure. Some cables also require wrapping with polyester tape for additional reinforcement.
The fourth step is jacket extrusion, during which the jacket layer is extruded over the cable core after cabling. This jacket serves to provide waterproofing, corrosion resistance, and protection against mechanical damage. The choice of jacket material depends on the specific application scenario—for example, outdoor cables typically use materials with strong weather resistance.
Finally, the finished products undergo inspection using methods such as withstand voltage testing, insulation resistance testing, and outer diameter measurement to ensure they meet national standards. After passing inspection, they are cut, wound onto reels, packaged, and then stored in the warehouse.
The entire production process requires strict control over material quality and process parameters to ensure the safe and stable operation of wires and cables.
