The standard system for the wire and cable industry is centered on national standards (GB/T), supplemented by industry standards, and covers the entire process—from product design and manufacturing to testing—ensuring product performance and safety.
In terms of national standards, the GB/T 5023.1 series specifications cover 450/750V polyvinyl chloride insulated cables, suitable for fixed wiring in home decoration; the GB/T 12706.1 series is dedicated to 1kV–35kV medium- and low-voltage extruded-insulated power cables, clearly defining performance requirements for insulation and sheathing; GB/T 19666-2019 classifies flame-retardant and fire-resistant cable grades, making them appropriate for fire protection applications in buildings, subways, and other similar environments; and GB/T 3956-2008 standardizes the structure and resistance characteristics of cable conductors, serving as a universal reference for the production of various types of cables.
Industry standards focus on specific sub-sectors: the JB/T 8734.1 series refines the model parameters for low-voltage PVC wires; MT 818-2019 emphasizes explosion-proof and moisture-resistant performance for cables used in coal mines; and YD/T 1019-2013 specifies the technical requirements for filling materials used in communication cables. In addition, the GB/T 3048 and GB/T 2951 series of test method standards provide a unified basis for evaluating performance characteristics such as conductor resistance and insulation aging.
